This week we’ll share an awesome feature that’s built on top of it, the Discord Import tool! 📥 We know that most of you use Discord right now for your web3 and NFT communities, so we built a tool that makes it easy to import all the categories, channels, and messages from a Discord server directly into a Status Community. To do this, first, you export your Discord data. Then when you create your new community in Status, you select the 'Import existing Discord community' option. A simple wizard will guide you through the process of generating your new Status Community and importing all the messages (including all images!) from your old Discord server. Whenever a new member joins your Status Community, they will be able to access and search all of the historical messages you imported from Discord. This is all made possible by the Archive Protocol! Status Weekly Roundup: Wallet team Ever wondered about the source of our asset list? We rely on the Uniswap token list (https://t.co/Q4DMrqtL07) as a source of trusted ERC-20 token contract addresses and metadata. The great things about the Uniswap default token list are that it uses the new multichain token list format and is the canonical listing of asset contract addresses on all Ethereum chains. Before each new release of Status goes out, the Uniswap token list for that release is added to that release’s first RC (release candidate) build. There is then a minimum of a two-week gap from when the first RC release is made before the final non-RC release of a new version of Status goes out publicly. This ensures that there is always a minimum of a two-week gap between a token list being added and a final release so that any bugs or attacks on the token list can be identified. The Uniswap default token list is the most widely used and trusted token list in existence and is security-critical for many projects, including Uniswap. Any issues with the Uniswap default token list will likely be identified very quickly. All of this is to ensure that the ERC-20 tokens that Status displays are authentic and not fraudulent. #EthStatusProgress

Status Weekly Roundup: Desktop Messenger team This week, we’re going to share with you an awesome feature we implemented a while ago. We call it the Archive Protocol, but you’ll see it referred to in the app as the Community History Service! 📦 Its purpose, as its name implies, is to make the history of a Community equally available to all members, irrespective of when they joined the Status Community. Since Status messaging is peer-to-peer, having a way to access older messages in a Status Community is not simple. The Archive Protocol comes to the rescue! 🦸 Each week, the Control Node of a Community is tasked with automatically creating an archive of all the messages sent in the Community in the past week and sharing it with community members. Of course, all the messages in the archive have the same level of encryption they had when they were originally sent. Passing all that data over the @Waku_org network wouldn’t be a good idea, which is why the Archive Protocol uses the Torrent protocol under the hood. All members in a Status Community contribute to the seeding of that community’s history archive. With this in place, all members of a community (including those who have joined more recently) can be certain they always end up having the entirety of the Community’s history! #EthStatusProgress

Status Weekly Roundup: Keycard team We’re still working on QR decoding for our new @Keycard_ hardware wallet, and all we think about is RAM 🤓 Some of the QRs we want to decode are animated (these are called “dynamic QR codes”), and we need to show the QR we’re trying to scan on the screen, and at the same time try to detect and decode it. To ensure good performance we decided to do double buffering. While one frame is processed, another one is acquired. This means we need two frames in RAM and as a result, we're going to have to work even harder to optimise our RAM usage! #EthStatusProgress

Status Weekly Roundup: Desktop Messenger team 🔏 We’ve finished development of single channel encryption. This means that when you create a ‘read-only’ or a ‘read and post’ permission for a specific channel, only those with the tokens you’ve specified in the permission will be able to decrypt the messages posted in that channel! This also means that in an ‘Open Status Community’ (a community that anyone can join without needing to hold any token), individual channels can be selectively encrypted when channel token-gating permissions are applied. Previously, the whole community had to be encrypted, which prevented users that haven't yet joined a community from browsing fully open and unrestricted public channels. Now prospective community members can browse open areas of a community to see if the community is one they want to join, before they apply to join. 🧑‍💻 The smart contracts for the TokenMaster and CommunityOwner tokens have been completed! We are continuing the integration of these contracts, so that users will be able to deploy these contracts and airdrop the associated tokens directly from the Desktop app in just a few clicks. Like all of Status Desktop’s token interactions, the UI for performing these actions is designed to be used by everybody, including non-technical users who have little prior experience of interacting with a blockchain. 🔗 We’ve been busy integrating the awesome Link Preview API that our colleagues in the Mobile team implemented. This new system improves both the privacy AND user experience of link previews by enabling the recipient of the link preview to see the preview image and copy without leaking their IP address to the URL being previewed. This means you won’t have to leave Link Previews switched off if you are concerned about leaking your IP address. Link Previews can now be enabled by default! 🙂 #EthStatusProgress

Head to ‘Settings’ and then the ‘Profile’ section. You'll see the screen shown in the first image below. Here you can set your ‘Profile picture’ (aka avatar), ‘Display name’ (how others see your name), and add a short intro text in ‘Bio’. If you switch to the ‘Preview’ tab, you’ll see an immediate preview of the changes you're about to make and how others will potentially see your profile. We've been working on QR detection and decoding for our upcoming @Keycard_ hardware wallet! We have forked quirc (https://t.co/QJbQuax3ve) and set to work on our main task, which is to optimise the amount of RAM QR decoding will use. Our objective is to find a way to capture and decode QR codes in all of our supported scenarios (including those that involve large dynamic QR codes!) using less than 500kB of RAM 💪 Working towards this goal, this week we have decided to 👉 not use dynamic memory allocation 👉 use square camera frames because QRs are square, innit 😉 It turns out that doing these two things reduces RAM usage by 25% More work to do, but we have made the first steps in our quest to reduce QR decode RAM usage! #EthStatusProgress

Status Weekly Roundup: Desktop UI team Hello there 👋 Our 'Storybook-like tool for QML', despite being a fairly simple tool, has a lot of useful functions. There's one feature we'd like to highlight that makes it very convenient to use on a daily basis. This feature is hot reloading. Thanks to hot reloading, there's no need to restart the application during development. Changes to the code are immediately reflected in the Storybook's page. When the code changes, the page is automatically reloaded. The state of the component can also be easily preserved, no matter how many hot reloads take place! It doesn't matter how complex the component in question is, this all "just works" 😀 Basically everything can be done without restarting Storybook (okay, except changing the singleton code—we'll add that when we upgrade to Qt 6). Remember all the performance work the Desktop UI team has been tweeting about over the last two months? Well in Status Desktop 0.13.1 it’s all finally landed and the results are great 🙂 Channel switching is way faster than before, CPU usage is far lower, we are seeing RAM usage reduced by around 50%, boot time is a little bit faster, and most importantly the feeling of ‘jankiness’ when using the app is mostly gone. There are still a few specific instances of jankiness we need to eliminate, and there are still a couple of RAM usage bugs, but by and large Status Desktop’s performance and resource usage problems are mostly fixed 🙂 To manage expectations, this release isn’t “public beta” quality yet, most notably because there are some non-backward compatible breaking changes to how communities function that we need to introduce in 0.14. Also, @Waku_org v2 relay mode bandwidth usage is still too high. But Status Desktop is definitely making good progress towards its “first public beta” milestone. One of the last two big blockers (app performance) is now solved, and there is only one large blocker remaining (Waku bandwidth usage). So feel free to head to GitHub and give Status Desktop 0.13.1 a try! #EthStatusProgress

Status Weekly Roundup: Mobile team 📱 Exciting mobile updates! 🚀 We just released our next alpha release of Status Mobile, 1.24! This release is still an 'early alpha' and is not yet recommended for public testing (so no testflight yet). However, as we are 100% open source, if you’re brave, you’re more than welcome to grab this release from our repo (https://t.co/2SpDbAiOv4) and have a play. And don't worry, as Status Mobile 2.0 becomes more mature, we’ll be rolling out a plan for wider public testing of alpha and beta pre-release builds. Highlights of this 1.24 release include Waku v2 'filter and light push' light client mode being enabled for the first time, new and improved animations, and numerous bug fixes. Looking forward, the main focus of the 1.25 development cycle will be to continue to improve the quality of the app. Fixing bugs, improving performance, stabilizing functionality, etc... maybe not as exciting as new features, but it's what needs to be done as we work toward our next major milestone, which is the first public alpha release of the Status Mobile 2.0 app. #EthStatusProgress
